As part of my Web Design course at Full Sail University I was asked to provide pros and cons of three different CMS sites. After reviewing the pros and cons of each to choose one to create a new website for the class project. The following are my observations for each.
The templates offered on the site were unique in some cases. The templates are beautiful and the design templates offer built in consistency for website creation.
Service offers mobile optimized website design.
Ecommerce seems to be a focus of this service, service at the business rate includes some valuable features in this regard with a 3% service charge on transactions.
Tutorials and start up guides available for customers along with support via live chat, phone, or email.
Design is copy and paste or drag and drop making starting with godaddy easy for businesses who want to create their website without the cost of hiring a web designer.
Free trial for 30 days.
If you create a site with one template and want to switch to another, all of your content is lost.
Ecommerce not available without add-on.
Customization is limited to text and images.
Most flexible for creating unique designs.
Build from the ground up instead of using templates.
Stand-alone design development.
Not as easy to work with as typical CMS drag and drop sites.
Hosting is not included with this CMS
Full customization can result in a very inconsistent site.
After reviewing the CMS services above, I am still pretty happy with Wix. After reviewing some of my classmates reviews, I may branch out and try some additional CMS services before finalizing my project.
